WELCOME :D

Sun Jun 21, 2009, 9:48 PM
Welcome to my deviantart page :D

Current projects:
-Lined jacket for PCPA Theaterfest's production of "The Music Man". I hope to construct a corset too.
-Paneled skirt
-The traveler's coat is in use now, though I would like to eventually make some alterations to it... inserting a lining and adding more structure to the collar.

I hope you like my artwork and I would appreciate any comments (feedback/critiques/compliments) you can make. DO NOT HESITATE TO CRITIQUE MY DRAWINGS!! But, please do NOT post a comment simply to tell me that a piece is complete crap (of course, I trust most of you will not do this, but there are, indeed, some of those people out there). Please provide CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. If you believe there is something I need to improve on, tell me. I have drawn for as long as I can remember, though I still feel the need to develop my technique.

Once I get more stuff scanned...absolutely need photoshop... I plan on doing some major edits to my gallery: transferring several drawings into scraps, perhaps (some of them are horrible, I must admit)... and redrawing a few of them.

3445 pageviews and counting!!

Thank you

-Please take a look at the scraps :D

You're welcome :)
I hope to learn how to make corsets... I hear there's an amazing corsetry place in Santa Monica.
That would be a good place to start :) And if I might recommend a couple of books, I actually just tried mine straight out of a book...
Corsets and Crinolines by Norah Waugh, and
Corsets: Historical Patterns & Techniques by Jill Salen. Both have been an invaluable source of info :)

Corsets and Crinolines is an awesome book... I have it and will definitely use it for the project. I don't think I've heard the second one, though. I should totally have a look at it :)
I think I might start out with an 18th century corset... not sure if I should buy casing or simply insert the boning in between two layers of fabric (coutil/fashion fabric, etc)... I will definitely construct a mock-up (I could use casing for this)... but maybe casing might add too much bulk to the final corset. What are your suggestions?
This century generally is self-cased between layers, especcially because there's so many bones in them. I don't think boning casings were really used until the last half of the 19th century.

Good luck, can't wait to see what you come up with!
